Since making his professional debut, Koththiigoda has taken six T20 wickets in six matches, with best figures of 3/25. The leg spinner bowled to former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson in a ten-over match between Deccan Gladiators and Bangla Tigers. However, Watson was unfazed by the bizarre action, crashing Koththiigoda for an enormous six in his second over. He finished the game with figures of 0/22, and the Tigers lost by six wickets.
Other Sri Lankan bowlers known for having unusual actions include pace bowler Lasith Malinga and off spinner Muttiah Muralitharan. One viewer compared Koththiigoda’s action to that of former South African spinner Paul Adams, another citing Indian bowler Shivil Kaushik.
