.TimgGilbert says Australian sport is in 'uncharted waters' with the AFL being the latest code to amend its season in order to slow the spread of COVID2019

The AFL has cut its season to 17 games in the latest bid by an Australian sporting code to mitigate the spread of the novel coronavirus COVID-19. AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan confirmed on Monday the game's 18 teams will play each other once but conceded he was not sure when the season will commence. Other major codes have altered or cancelled events due to the global pandemic.

The A-League will play its remaining six games behind closed doors while the Super Rugby competition has been postponed indefinitely just seven rounds into the season. Fans will be banned from cheering on their horse during this week’s Golden Slipper race at Rosehill Gardens as organisers grapple to contain the spread of the disease. Sky News presenter Tim Gilbert said Australian sport is in “uncharted waters." “So many people are being effected at the moment,” he said.
