Opinion: Outside of the mainstream media, Sia's announcement that she had EDS has attracted conspiracy theorists who are committed to spreading misinformation

, the overall reaction was one of slight commiseration and enthusiasm towards the prospect that a celebrity diagnosis will lead to greater awareness of the condition.

Sia's tweet announcing her diagnosis, "I'm suffering with chronic pain, a neurological disease, ehlers danlos", was widely misinterpreted: even the likes of the BBC and actual medical websites were reporting that Sia's EDS is a neurological disorder, when in fact she has a neurological disorderEDS so seldomly gets media attention that it's more important to get coverage of it right – there aren't many opportunities for corrections and myth-busting.
