China dismisses claims Beijing is ramping up its espionage efforts, and that detained Australian citizen and pro-democracy activist Yang Hengjun is being held in inhumane conditions.

ASIO would lead a new taskforce aimed at strengthening Australia's response to the threat of foreign interferenceWhile she did not directly refer to the taskforce when asked about it, Ms Hua criticised the media commentary around allegations of Chinese interference in Australia.

"For quite some time, certain Australian media and other agencies have been hyping up the so-called China espionage cases, China infiltration stories or China interference theory," Ms Hua said.

'It's fair to say' the new ASIO taskforce is related to Chinese interference | Sky News AustraliaProfessor John Blaxland at the Australian National University Strategic and Defence Studies Centre says it’s “fair to say” the creation of the government’s multi-million dollar Australian Security Intelligence Organisation taskforce is related to recent claims of Chinese interference.\n\nAustralia's security agencies will join forces on a new $90 million taskforce, designed to counter the threat of foreign interference.\n\nThe role of ASIO will expand for the first time and classified information on foreign interference will be shared with the Australian Federal Police.\n\nPrime Minister Scott Morrison has said the creation of the taskforce is not related to recent claims of Chinese interference.\n\nMr Blaxland told Sky News on Monday “the bottom line is our trade is very much dependent on China buying stuff from us and yet our security is very much tied with the US and with other western partners and with our neighbours”. Thanks for the chat Chris Kenny, Well,,if they have failed thus far with the assets they already have, it would be cheaper to arrest those with treason would it not?
