Melbourne residents gathered in the city's CBD on Friday for a silent vigil to mourn the death of Natalina Angok, 32, who was allegedly killed by her partner earlier this week. "It's a quiet space for people to honour Natalina's life and reflect on why we're here again and why we've been running multiple vigils," co-organiser Jessamy Gleeson told SBS News.
"It's not even a case of just doing one per year but one per woman who dies at the hands of a man in order to really personally differentiate them so each woman isn't just the number."A mourner outside Victoria's Parliament House."We are heartbroken. Our family is finding the strength to come to terms with this tragedy and the loss of Natalina Angok," her family said in a statement following the court appearance.
"We would like the media to respect our privacy and cease further contact with family members. And allow us to grieve peacefully." According to Destroy The Joint's Counting Dead Women project, Ms Angok is the 17th woman killed by violence in Australia this year, which equates to one death per week. Melbourne Labor MP Harriet Shing posted on social media urging people to attend the vigil and to use Ms Angok's name. Her name is Natalina Angok. She’s a person, not just another victim in just another headline. Use her name. Remember her name.

Vigil planned for murdered Melbourne woman Natalina AngokThe same city grieved publicly after Eurydice Dixon was raped and murdered last year. They held vigils when Aiia Maasarwe was murdered in January. But when Natalina Angok suffered a similar fate, there was relative silence. Some people don't matter. There are two vigils for NatalinaAngok planned in Melbourne: - Friday 26 April, 6pm, Parliament House - Sunday 28 April, 7pm, State Library Those women were killed by strangers. Our lack of attention to DV is the difference.

'United we stand': Melbourne's Sri Lankan community gathers to pay respectsMembers of Melbourne's large Sri Lankan community came together in grief and disbelief on Monday as they tried to comprehend the horror of the terror attacks that have claimed at least 290 lives. Prayers again what good does praying to a fairy story do if there ever was a god isn't this his doing Wouldn't it be great to see Melbourne's Muslim leaders & community speak out in support of your Sri Lankan community like the rest of the world did after the Christchurch attacks? It appears this is just another case of Muslims having no respect or tolerance for the others. Praying, that’ll help! Seems to have done the trick after every other attack!

Thousands gather in Martin Place for Anzac Day dawn serviceAt 3.25am there’s just enough breeze to flutter the Anzac Day banners in Martin Place. The Hills District Pipe Band are warming up their bagpipes. Lest we forget that those boys died on the wrong foreign beach for absolutely no reason and for no gains. The only meaning we can extract from it is that all conflict is pointless and evil, and that we still perpetuate it today.
