Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vucic said his nation could not understand Australia’s treatment of the unvaccinated world tennis number one.

Serbia’s Prime Minister denounced as “scandalous” Australia’s deportation of Novak Djokovic’s for not being vaccinated against COVID-19, while the Serbian President accused Australia of “torturing and tormenting” the tennis star and treating him “like a mass murderer”.

“Why did you do it? Doing a witch-hunt against him? This is something that no one can understand,” he said.Djokovic’s family said in a statement that they were “very disappointed” with the decision by the Australian authorities, and that the court ruling was related with “politics and all [other] interests”.

The Serbian Tennis Association said in a statement that the “farce is over” and “politics has beaten sport.”“Novak Djokovic ... has been denied an opportunity to win a milestone 10th title [in Australia]. Political pressure has led to the revocation of his visa to satisfy ‘public interest’,” the TSS said.

In the Serbian capital Belgrade, Djokovic’s home city, many support him though some felt he should have been vaccinated. “This was not just about sports and playing in the first grand slam of the season, which Novak has dominated for a decade, but also politics and all the interests that prevailed in this case.Aleksandar Vucic, Serbian President

“I thank the court for their prompt attention to these issues and the patience of all involved as we have worked to resolve this issue. It’s now time to get on with the Australian Open and get back to enjoying tennis over the summer.”“It is not great for the tournament because it is better when all of the top players are playing in the event.

Is his name spelt 'Dickovic?'

Based on recent Sebian history, leaders in Serbia well know about torture & tormenting. The rest of the world may ask why the President of Serbia still uses such language or does Serbia still imprison & torture. Many supported Milosevic. Serbia such language is repugnant.

Oh I hope he ok after his extensive torture by AUSTRALIAN AUTHORITIES. If I was him I would be afraid to come back to such a dangerous country. 😜

So file your complaint with The Hague. See what happens.

You try living without your personal chef for a week 😜

Total rubbish, Djokovic tried to break through the system. He should have been turned around at he border and banned for 3 years, hopefully, it will be a longer term.

“t and t' comments are over reacting. Don't expect from any political leaders to say that out of the blue?

No surprise. They didn't torture anyone in Sebrenica. Just shot them all.

Coming from a country full of war criminals?! 🤔

I suggest that unless Serbia cease and desist this nonsense, the three year ban on Novak returning to Australia must stand. auspol

BoycottAustralianOpen

Torturing ? Suck it up petals, they hardly tied him naked to a chair and pulled his fingernails out..

Well, it’s up to Novak to put the record straight if he ever wants to return within 3 yrs

Oh boo hoo.... I’m sure he suffered much less than any other illegal entrant, they go into detention on a remote island. He had a nice hotel room with room service and all. I’m sure he will be ok when he gets home he still a millionaire. No one cares... lol

Serbians tortured and tormented Bosnias . Now they cry about?

We are all over it, I suggest Serbia get over it too because at the end of the day Novaxx is still deported

Serbia don’t give a fuck about us. And the feelings mutual

Playing the blame game instead of letting the individual take responsibility for the scandalous actions. What if an Australian breached their country laws Surely!!!!!!

What the hell does Serbia care about a citizen of Monaco?

Let's try with a powerpoint or some tiktoks ... maybe then they'll understand the reasons why he was deported

“torturing and tormenting”? More lies from Serbians.

The Australian government did not want an unvaxxed player winning the tournament, so they deported him. Simple as that! They didn't think it would be a good look and might encourage anti vaxx sentiment.

Seriously he shared a hotel where refugees who languish in detention for 9 years due to Oz immigration laws. What torture did he endure? If the Serbians were truly global citizens that’s what they should be affronted by. Outrage is a privilege - refugees just want to live.

Copping lecture from Serbian leaders about torture and torment. Pottle..kettle..black. Please!

Don't like Australian rules just than don't come here!

Fully justified. This country has become an embarrassment. The jabbed hypochondriacs should be segregated from the educated sane

Well they'd know all about that. Ask the Bosnians and Kosovans.

They're very dramatic the Serbians aren't they 🙃

Serbia's 'leaders' would be better advised to teach their prominent expats to behave responsibly, lest they spread their own shame inferentially onto the country. Not sure what's more embarrassing. The incident. Or the fact Australian politicians still have the stupid notion that vaccines reduce your chances of contracting and spreading the disease. I guess science isn't their strong suit.
