A "perfect" field of paper daisies at the Australian Botanic Gardens at Mount Annan has been trampled by people taking "selfish selfies", the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney director of horticulture, Jimmy Turner, says.
"[I'm] so disappointed for my team, after eight months of planning and five months of nurturing, that a select few of our visitors can destroy sections of our spring paper daisy display in seconds," he said. This year, horticulturists had gone to great lengths to put on a showstopping display, using smart technology and other innovations to cope with water restrictions.
It's the same story at Mount Tomah and the Royal Botanic Gardens, also managed by The Royal Botanic Gardens and Domain Trust. This meant it could put in new sprinkler systems without digging up existing gardens, and didn't need to use as much water to establish new gardens.
