Search concludes for missing Belgian backpacker without success | nickbonyhady

The search for missing Belgian backpacker Theo Hayez has finished without finding any evidence of what happened to the 18-year-old, who has not been seen for more than a month.

Byron Bay Police Commander Superintendent Dave Roptell on Wednesday thanked the local community on behalf of the NSW Police Force, Mr Hayez's family and the Belgian authorities for assisting with the search. A ping from his phone on June 1 about 12 hours after he was last sighted likely put him in the area near Cape Byron lighthouse but despite extensive searches in that area and across the Byron Bay region, no trace of the Belgian student has been found.
