Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison speaks to media during a press conference at Kirribilli House.Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison arrives to speak to media during a press conference at Kirribilli House in Sydney on Sunday."It's understandable that when that occurs that the other party that was involved in that contract would be aggrieved and disappointed. I understand that," Mr Morrison said on Sunday afternoon."It must come first and it did come first.

But Mr Morrison said he had "deep and grave concerns" the French submarines were not going to be sufficient to "protect our sovereign interests".Recalled French ambassador says next steps being considered after Australia's 'breach of trust' "But at the same time Australia, like any sovereign nation, must always take decisions that are in our sovereign national defence interest - and this is what we have done in this circumstance."

I'd align with France any day. Their movies are much better. As is their cheese. Philosophy is a compulsory subject at school. And they believe in taking to the streets.

ScottyFromMarketing loves a big announcement. And to him it is just about having the image of a guy making big moves. But who really knows the implications? let alone the cost and relationship with France and the EU over clumsy diplomacy. Investing in nuclear energy……

another dirty deal by the LNP criminal organization!

And why would he ?

Did Australian government insist that French convert submarines from nuclear to diesel ? An impossible demand

Was Scott Morrison involved in original agreement with French company?

There is a lot more to this than media is reporting. Journalists are not asking right questions.

Australia needed to act in self interest, in the right alliance and latest technology for defence right now ?

Little boys wanting to hold on to the perception of power and prestige... The West is in decline.

It's just business. Move on.

France needs to remember how many Australians gave their lives in WW1 and wind their necks in: 152,171 wounded and 46,000 died in France & Belgium. The contract had exit clauses and they were exercised: grow up and stop whining!

Jobseeker

Police could be scapegoat at certain stage, whose order? Politicians are not dumb, they buy police with money from people! They can turn against police and seek people’s support anytime! Politicians are always right, isn’t it? Wake up now! OZ need a director, not a dictator!

It will be done in 2040 !who knows.

No confidence Vote for Scomo and LNP! NoVoteofConfidenceForScomo. auspol2021

Good man

When you have no conscience…you have no regrets…the waste of money alone is appalling…yet they chase the poor for monies wrongly given…let alone the lack of loyalty…what happens if he gets a better offer next month from another quarter?

It all started one summer day when I fell in love with our Au Pair.... she broke my heart.... now I just hate the French.... anything French

I always thought a deal was a deal. This shows how untrustworthy Morrison really is, doesn’t it?

The same US who mistook water containers for explosives and killed an aid worker and 7 children?

Smuggo doesn't regret any of his massive stuffups: vaccine procurement, vaccine rollout, quarantine, covid app, robodebt, JobRorter, aged care, federal ICAC, RespectWork, March4justice no-show, climate inaction...

Australia looks so badass right now

But the electorate does Tick tock

Would u trust this man...

The stupid politicians tied Australia's future and national interests to the chariots of two declining empires, and at the same time raised a middle finger to a friend and pushed a big friendly client out of the door. Well done Morrison and Dutton.

ScoMo. The ultimate example for how politicians are experts in combining ignorance with arrogance. But he stands out.

No regret now. Later?

Just another announcement. I’d bet that we will never see these subs.

A Liberal government contract where hundreds of businesses have lost millions of investment dollars in the French project, thousands of jobs will be lost as well. Everybody is very quiet about that.

Looks like ‘sovereign’ is Morrison’s new buzz word. Expect it to be repeated ad nauseam & uncritically in certain media soon.

I think he’ll have a decent life in UK or US after next election

This is very dangerous for Australian’s future

Only a very good economic manager can think it is OK to break a contract worth $90mill.

The Anglo-Saxon nations are better off placing their trust and reliance in each other. AngloSaxonPower

Of course he doesn't - he imagines it makes him look strong and that he's restoring the US-Aust bond that was strained cause Trump and Biden clearly didn't really care about him.

'Upfront, open and honest': Dutton defends Australia's handling of submarine contractDefence Minister Peter Dutton says he understands why the French are upset but insists Australia's decision to scrap the submarine deal between the countries should not have come as a complete surprise. There is NOTHING upfront and honest about the rabble of a government. Everything is cloak and dagger behind closed doors. You cannot believe upfront and certainly not ‘honest’ when it comes to politics but it is a concern to be remembered for this. Hopefully Labor will smooth relations and press ahead. Why didn’t this govt think ahead with what kind of Subs they wanted b4 signing with France. Stupid We had a contract and reneged, it’s as simple as that. Australia’s conduct is indefensible not to mention compounded by the public stance on reasons the government gives for doing so. Poor form by them.

‘Hundreds’ of Australian companies left in the lurch after French submarine deal scrappedLadies and gentlemen , he government of politicians the way it governed it used humanity right abuse . After my observation I found many country using humanity right. As As A son of queen they used the rights . When someone does a crime they should report on the same day so the Rodney Cox. Unfortunately the French showed they were incompetent in delivering the submarines on time and within budget. Our need is SASPO. At least 8 of the new submarines will be built in SA with massive opportunities for the SA workforce.

NATO downplays impact of submarine row on military cooperationNATO says the dispute between France and the US and Australia over the submarine contract may have consequences but it is unlikely to affect 'military cooperation' within the group. it should, NATO is useless for France. Unfortunately the image of Australia can't repair if the Subs are in the Water running now, We would all shut up. But now we have the opportunity of a life time to get Nuclear Subs. So wise to tear up that contract. Long Live Scotty!
