'Scandalous lie': John Jarratt denies raping woman in police interview

Actor John Jarratt has branded an allegation that he raped his female housemate more than 40 years ago a "scandalous lie" and emphatically denied that he would ever hurt a woman, in a police interview played in court.

Jarratt has pleaded not guilty and says the pair had consensual sex while his wife Rosa Miano slept in a nearby room.On Wednesday, the court was played a police interview from May 3, 2018, where Jarratt read an eight-page statement at Maroubra police station in the presence of two detectives and his lawyer.

He said after their encounter another man moved into the house, "fell madly in love" with the woman, and was asked to move out. The man, called "Tree", then came back to the house one night "furiously inebriated" and yelling for the woman to come out. He said he felt it was his duty to stand in harm's way to stop a woman being violated or hurt by someone."My father raised me to respect women."

Do not take 40 years to report a rape. That is ridiculous. It is unfair on a jury to sit on a case and try to determine innocence or guilt after 40 years.

Weak excuse she could have reported years ago .. but don’t believe her.. after what she can get

I believe the woman. She told other people about it. Why would she lie?

Course they did - systemic Another failure of religious self-regulation. This criminality must never again be swept under the rug for the specious sake of religious privilege. Just another one of a list they allowed to continue to rape kids when they knew . How are they still a legal entity? Really?
