The long-awaited Royal Commission into Aged Care has been handed down today, with commissioners presenting the final report to the governor-general this morning.

The lengthy investigation heard hundreds of witnesses recall instances of maltreatment and abuse in aged care facilities. The interim report delivered scathing recommendations and findings about how elderly Australians are being treated at their most vulnerable. Prime Minister Scott Morrison today said he expected to spend the weekend reading the report – which is not expected to be tabled until next week.

“This Royal Commission I think will identify … serious and disturbing issues that are a problem of decades … and its important I think that the government is then supported by the parliament right across all parties and we get on with the things that we need to do to address the recommendations,” Mr Morrison said.

Australia’s aged care system set for $452 million boost following release of royal commission reportThe boost comes as the final report of the two-and-a-half-year federal inquiry into Australia's aged care system was released on Monday. AnnounceMo announces REfunding Great another announcement from ScottyDoesNothing I hope that there is some follow through but the LNP track record leaves me despairing. Willing to bet they are ripping $700 million out of it via a backdoor to compensate. Let's remember this is the government that killed 800 aged care residents by not providing them basic PPE gear and then had the gall to blame it on the Victorian government.

Costs, conflicted opinions and ageism could prevent aged care reform after damning royal commission reportAcademics have welcomed the aged care royal commission's final report but predict that cost will prevent many of its 148 recommendations from ever being implemented. They'll never be implemented because government never implements anything after a royal commission, they're pointless things The Australian people, thru various governments, are responsible for this situation therefore it is they who should pay for the mess perpetrated in their name/s.
