Most superannuation fund members saw a big improvement in their retirement savings in 2021, with returns four times higher than the previous year, when sharemarkets took fright over the potential economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Hostplus Balanced heads the 2021 performance league table with a return 19.1 per cent. Qantas Super Gateway Growth was next best with 18.5 per cent followed by Sunsuper For Life Balanced, with 16.5 per cent. However, David Elia, Hostplus’ chief executive, said the fund had remained “true to our asset-allocation strategy,” despite the pressure to make changes.
Australian shares gained 17.5 per cent in the year, while international shares surged a whopping 24.3 per cent in currency hedged terms. “While it is interesting to see which funds performed well over the year, this needs to be considered in relation to performance over longer time periods,” he says. “That way, members can see whether their fund is a consistently strong performer – that’s what really counts”, Rappell says.
It's like these so-called 'experts' can't see the imminent and massive crash coming that some of us 'amateurs' can see like it's written on the wall in fluoro paint with a big strobe light and spotlight pointed at it and a big ass choir singing about it.
