Premier Retail, which owns brands Smiggle, Dotti and Peter Alexander, achieved record sales during this year’s Black Friday sales event.

A record Black Friday trading week has primed Premier Investments for buoyant Christmas trade, Boxing Day and back-to-school sales that will help drive sales and earnings growth this year.

Customers snapped up new 2023 ranges across its brands, which also include Dotti, Just Jeans, Jay Jays, Portmans and Jacqui E. The group achieved record sales during this year’s Black Friday event including its highest-ever global online sales from a trading week. “There is full employment. There’s an expectation of higher wages, so there’s going to be more money in the pipeline so from our perspective, we’re very happy with rate of employment,” he said.

“We’ve bought well, we’ve got our plans, we know how to trade it. As a management team, we can only control the levers we have got. But I think certainly from Sol down, [we are] very focused on managing risks,” he said. Mr Lew questioned if shoppers wanted to go to Myer given its $3 billion or so in sales and little profit to show.“You might be disappointed with the Christmas windows currently. Well, you should go out and look. I’m not saying they are bad, they are underinvested,” he told media.
