The death of US Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has sparked a partisan “and corrosive debate” as to the appointment and confirmation of her successor says Sky News contributor Catherine McGregor.

“The naming of Donald Trump's nominee for the position today, has continued the argument,” she said. President Trump announced Amy Coney Barrett as his nominee to replace deceased former associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg after she passed away two weeks ago after a long battle with cancer. Ms McGregor said in Australia “we are fortunate in this country that our judicial system bears more of the traits of our English common law origins than elements of the American system”.

Ms McGregor said she doubts "anyone outside elite legal circle" would be aware in Australia, two Justices of our High Court will reach their mandatory retiring age within 6 months. "The prime minister and his Attorney General Christian Porter face a very serious test in the next few months," she said. "Will they appoint strict legalists ... to the High Court? I certainly hope so. So do many, among the Coalition ranks.

Oh really? I thought the partisan and corrosive debate started when Hillary lost the election. Silly me, it obviously started when this old woman died. Thanks to that sharp journalist for putting me straight. 😂😂
