More than 6 million Australians will have access to free rapid antigen tests, but pharmacists fear widespread supply shortages mean they will struggle to meet demand.

"The demand is extreme and pharmacists are being pushed to the limit with this at the moment."

"Those tests are extremely rare at the moment, which does push up the price — so the $10 plus GST [reimbursement] is a challenge, in terms of making sure that the pharmacies can buy them in at a price equal or lower to that," Dr Freeman said.Rapid antigen tests have quickly sold out in pharmacies since the outbreak of the Omicron variant.

The federal government insisted national cabinet would regularly review the reimbursement rate, to ensure it kept up with the price for RATs. The federal opposition argued it was not good enough and highlighted a lack of planning by the Commonwealth.

🤔🥱 ABC let me know when there are RAT's kits available otherwise what's the point of worrying about it. 😡

PaulMeekPerth You mean, any. Pharmacies fear they won’t have any.

Where are the RAT tests

Of course they won't have any Nsw and Victoria got the diverted tests so they can open schools Connect the dots guys😖😡

Or any……

MCRNBM What is the National plan to STOP THE SPREAD? And PROTECT THE VULNERABLE? RATS n Vax alone will not get is out of this

MCRNBM Yeah but where are the free RATS for HCWs, Teachers, Essential supply chain workers, kids and their parents...etc

If you feel unwell and can’t get a RAT to test yourself then technically your free to go wherever you like spreading the love ❤️. LNPDeathCult

Pharmacies are putting on extra staff to cope with surging demand for RATs !! Where are they getting the extra staff from! Most businesses are struggling to get staff.

Chempro hasn't had P2 masks or RAT's since early December. I asked to be notified almost 4 weeks ago, it still says another 1 to 2 week wait. Ppl wonder why cases went rampant. Apparently it's only school kids with RAT's. How do parents test themselves?

Well duuuuh!

Two years later … and it’s still that feat that an incompetent government will destroy us.

Won't have enough? They haven't got any here in rural NSW. Four Chemists within a 30 minute drive and no RAT's. The only way to get some is to spend time on the internet and if you're lucky to find some -- pay through the nose then sit back and wait weeks on end for delivery.

My chemist says they can't get rapid tests till mid February. How many people are infected and going undiagnosed. Another stuff-up by the Morrison government.

If only we had an INDEPENDENT NATIONAL BROADCASTER that wasn't scared to demand answers from Morriscum & the LNPCrimeFamily, rather than cutting short any interview with the opposition leader & letting the 2 female breakfast hosts show their BLATANTLY pro-LNP bias. DO BETTER. 😡

Sounds like it’s not a money maker for the Pharmacies 🙄 so let concession card holders / pensioners collect their free RATs from testing sites.GregHuntMP Pharmacies can sell to whoever wants to buy. And terminate the government rebate program.

There just aren’t enough available. Government has gone the cheap ‘wait & see what happens’ approach. Now we die. Thanks GregHuntMP.
