Rail workers, nurses and midwives have taken industrial action in Sydney after negotiations fell through.

Commuters have been warned to allow extra time or use alternative transport due to the significant train delays.Meanwhile, nurses and midwives have walked off the job at multiple hospitals. At Westmead, nurses and midwives held the strike for 12 hours, while at Liverpool it will continue for 24 hours."Are we going to strike bigger? Yes! Are we going to strike harder? Yes!," nurses could be heard chanting.

The government has offered a cash bonus of $3000 and a pay rise of about 3 per cent, but the union says members now want 7 per cent. The union also claims that the $3000 bonus is reduced to about $1700 once super and tax are factored in. "We will go back again to the government to express our concerns and our rejection of their failure to address our claims for nurse-to-patient ratios and we will consider what next industrial action is necessary," Holmes said.Later in the week, teachers from the public and Catholic schools sector will also be walking off the job, for the first time in more than 25 years.

Nurses and teachers will also walk off the job as negotiations on pay and staffing continues. Die at home? TfNSW should listen to the workers on the ground and their experienced feedback on these new trains. Guards are worth it for passenger safety, whether it be passengers falling onto tracks, or for women at night when we look for that blue 'guard' light, a signal of safety. Of course.
