The 44-year-old had allegedly injured a policeman and punched a police dog following a pursuit that ended after two days. 9News

A violent and serial absconder's escape is raising questions as the WA Government demands to know how Laurie John Dodd went on the run two days after police caught him after a crime spree.

The 44-year-old had allegedly injured a policeman and punched a police dog following a pursuit that ended on Thursday night in the Perth suburb of Bayswater. He was taken to Royal Perth Hospital for treatment on Saturday before allegedly putting one of his guards in a chokehold and demanding he be freed. He then caught a bus while still wearing his hospital gown.

"My thanks go to the two young contractors, men, who did everything they possibly could to ensure that the person remained in custody but were overpowered," said Corrective Services Minister Fran Logan. One of the questions posed is why two unarmed contractors were escorting and guarding Dodd given his record of violence and escapes.
