The Morrison Government is facing calls to axe its free trade deal with Hong Kong after suspending Australia's extradition agreement with the city. The Government announced it was suspending its extradition treaty with Hong Kong last weekWhen parliament returns, the Greens will try to, pressing for a Senate committee inquiry into the free trade agreement.
"If the Government is prepared to say that it is willing to stand up for democracy and human rights in Hong Kong, then that has to be consistent. It can't be business as usual," Mr Bandt said. The party believes it has a good chance of gaining crossbench support for a Senate committee inquiry, and also hopes to convince conservative Government Senators to cross the floor in support.
"This FTA provides certainty and transparency for Australian businesses trading and investing in Hong Kong," Senator Birmingham said.
kerokero_HKer No matter how evil the CCP Chinazi NationalSecurityLaw are No matter how brutal the HKPolice is HKer are still fighting for justice, liberty & democracy 💪🏿😠 Hongkonger are not giving up! StandWithHongKong AntiChinazi PoliceBrutality HumanitarianCrisis HKProtest
Just don’t trust the totalitarian CCP. Bringing financial benefits is just a guise; what’s critical is their expansionistic aggression, as reflected in different people and places suffered, be it the people of HK, Xinjiang or foreigners under the influence of infiltration.
Many thanks to Australia for standing with Hongkongers to fight against this tyranny! It’s a pity that Hong Kong is no longer free and safe whereas no free trade is possible here!
Whilst I proudly support free trade and am against protectionism, we need to properly review our current FTA with Hong Kong and if we need to, then we may have to pull it and diversify our trading partnerships elsewhere. StandWithHongKong Auspol2020.
Cancel it. Shame on passing it during HongKongProtests without guarantees of human rights. Shame Australia.
We support your action🙏🏻
Yes. All Aussie must act now to standwithHongKong before it is too late. Don't be next.
It is dangerous to trade with a Chinese controlled city where free flow of information, people and capital has been restricted.

Don't really understand why we waiting for. Is scomo on his knees for China, pretending that he's doing something / not.
I wonder will the thoroughbred industry stop & think about the lucrative trade in racehorses to HKG...? Will they support the people of HKG or their own pockets? Currently, Many horses are repatriated after racing..what will happen to the horses then?
The world has to totally stop trade with China. They are a ticking time bomb.
CCP is not a trustworthy partner as you can see it always breaks the promise with others (e.g. HongKongers).
If CCP can’t keep its promise on HongKong’s autonomy less than half way thru the 50 yrs promised, can’t see why a CCP-run HK will honor trade deals either
Free trade deal is built on mutual trust . CCP will never be a good trading partner ! Hong Kong's fate shows the real nature of CCP so Australia must stand up to Xi and puts human rights above business interests .

Dont trust china
The one country two systems in Hong Kong was dead. Australia should reconsider all trade deal in the view that Hong Kong=China
Great move. HongKong is totally off and become the NewWestBerlin after the NationalSecurityLaw.. The CCP destroyed the SINO-BRITISH JOINT DECLARATION already. OneCountryTwoSystemIsDead. HongKongers, even all in HK will be no more freedom and democracy. StandWithHongKong
CCP China is worth to be sanctioned.
Don't trust the CCP. They will broke their promise. Just like The Sino-British Joint Declaration.
CCP tyranny shows no respect on human rights, eg uyghursgenocide and NationalSecurityLaw in Hong Kong. It should be the common enemy of the free world.
Hong Kong people are grateful for the support from Australia. However, as what mentioned I’M the articles, AUS may consider to impose the sanction to HK in different aspects. This is to stop HKGov from further destroying the freedom and rights of HK people. StandWithHongKong
DO NOT BELIEVE CHINA IN ANY SITUATION
If China could treat Uyghurs and HongKongers so badly, why do you think shes a trustworty business partner? BoycottChina
hmmm...nearly all of comments here were not made by aussies...
China is not a trustworthy country regarding its performance handling human rights issues.
After the imposition of the national security law, Hong Kong has become a city that is as authoritarian as in China (or even worse as the law is applicable to everyone in the world). It's definitely correct to review the deals with HK now.
National security law is the biggest and most obvious sign for all governments in the world to stop trading with China CCP. They’re costing your human rights and privacy, while not benefiting as expected. BoycottChineseProducts standwithhongkong
Guess who's side the ABC (paid by the Australian Tax payer) is on?
