A man promised a youth church choir member $20 for her silence after raping her in his toilet during singing practice. 9News

A Brisbane man promised a youth church choir member $20 for her silence after raping her in his toilet during singing practice, a court has heard.

Pentecostal church member Shartiel Nibigira gave the girl the money about a month after the alleged rape, the court heard on Wednesday. Crown prosecutor Natalie Lima told the Brisbane District Court that the girl, aged between seven and 10 at the time of the rape, had gone upstairs from where choir practice was being held to go to the toilet.

Nibigira followed the girl from his bedroom, also upstairs, into the toilet without knocking on the door, she said. The girl was facing away from Nibigira when he grabbed her around the stomach before pulling his and her pants down and raping her, the court heard. The alleged offences occurred between 2011 and 2013 when the girls, members of the Acacia Ridge church's youth choir, were at Nibigira's Goodna house, which was used for choir practice and other church activities.
