Queensland election: Polls close as voters choose between Annastacia Palaszczuk and Deb Frecklington

The opposition is promising a $300 car registration refund and a subsidy to reduce electricity costs for businesses. It says it will upgrade hospitals and roads, fund a tropical fish accelerator and install ship lifts in three ports.

Queensland will open the border to regional NSW on Tuesday but Greater Sydney and Victoria remain banned."A great government that has protected Queenslanders and has a plan for the future," he said of the incumbents. Queensland Labor senator and strategist Murray Watt said he was confident the party would"fall over the line and just gain a majority".Monash University political lecturer Dr Zareh Ghazarian said the premier had not had the easiest run into the election.

"Today's result might very well be indicative of how the rest of the country is feeling towards its leaders."
