Queensland court staff have been consulted on a COVID-19 vaccine mandate, but while all judges are already vaccinated, prisoners and visitors to court will not need to get the jab.

Queensland court staff have been consulted on a vaccine mandate, but the proposed plan will not subject visitors or prisoners to the same directive if approved.

But unvaccinated people who may be appearing for a legal matter or visiting for a case will be allowed, if the plan is approved. All Court Services Queensland employees, including at the Magistrates and Supreme and District courts, the Department of Justice and Attorney General Office of Liquor, Gaming and Fair-Trading Division, Office of the Public Guardian, the Queensland Sentencing Advisory Committee Secretariat, and those potentially visiting Corrective Services premises and watch houses were included in the plan.

The mandate is similar to the one enforced by Queensland Parliament, except in the latter case visitors are included and must be vaccinated to enter parliament grounds. “Other measures, such as the use of QR codes, mask wearing, safe distancing instructions, additional hygiene resources and appropriate cleaning routines, have been implemented consistent with medical advice and Health Directives from the Chief Medical Officer, and in consultation with legal practitioners and court staff,” he said.
