The increasingly toxic battle between the airlines and the airports has reached a fever pitch - each side trading insults and corralling powerful supporters.

The airline’s owners, some of the largest superannuation industry funds in the country, have threatened Mr Frydenberg with withholding $20 billion in future investment for Sydney’s Western Suburbs airport and an additional runway in Melbourne. The Australian Airports Association will hit back on Wednesday accusing airlines of engaging in a "disingenuous attempt to increase airline profits at the expense of investment".

Mr Joyce and Mr Scurrah are asking the federal government to introduce a system of arbitration as a mechanism to resolve pricing and investment disputes between airports and their users which include airlines, retailers and taxis. However, a Productivity Commission report on airport charges now before Mr Frydenberg, is widely understood to recommend the status quo of price monitoring rather than interfering with unregulated airport pricing.

Does that short ass stand on a step stool behind his Podium? askingforafriend

People are quite probably pizzed at the rediculous wages the airlines CEO’s are receiving. They’d rather row to their chosen destinations

He is right! Stop accusing the bloke about his wage!..we do pay enormous fees for landing and stationed at Sydney airport...on top of that they pay for the check in counters too! Why? So he is right to reduce the landing and parking fees..but you people have no idea!

With a $24m bonus u would have thought shareholders might have said the same thing about Mr Joyce having them 'over a barrel'.

Alan would know about having people over a barrel. Grounded Qantas. Pay packet.

Says the man who would rather spend more time in the barrel.

And Joyce your airfares are making billions your no better

Australia’s most expensive CEO complains about world’s most expensive airports at National Press Club today. Globalist media applaud!

A bit rich coming from the pathetic germ who had no qualms about putting customers over a barrel when he unilaterally and without notice threw a hissy fit and grounded the entire fleet back in 2011!

Not to mention drivers. Melbourne airport world leader in gouging drivers for the shortest of stays.

Too bad Qantas! Alan Joyce needs a big salary.

Well well Mr Joyce - if you can be paid $24m a year as CEO I don’t think there is a complaint that is valid

GeoffHutchison

He made $23 million and is complaining about fees. May be take pay cut.ceosalariessuck

Talk to John Howard about it

And Alan would also like the govt to open up airline competition as well. He’s advocating for Singapore Airlines to have a run at the Syd - LA (USA) river of gold.

Six billion profit and still accusing others for QANTAS over pricing

I want you idiots to focus on the nasty govt charging you $10 each time a plane lands or takes off whilst I just shovel away my $24m from mum & dad investors.....

Man who gouges passengers accuses other company of gouging.

Pushing up fees? I don’t think anything this man says will be valued again since his ruthless extortion of 24 million out of Qantas coffers for himself. He has zero cred for me. I see his fat greedy little face and I think liar.

Mr. Joyce would do well to consider sharing his wealth which he has amassed at the expense of others. How much money is enough Mr. Joyce?

qantas Quick, look over there at those mean airports...Don't look at my salary package...

Well then, build your own airports then, ja?

It’s almost like privatising airports is possibly not a great idea ...

gov should not have sold airport to a monopoly Domestic must be separated fr int n Syd owners should banned from owning Melb Monopoly must be broken up Bali n Honolulu are cheaper than our landing charges
