Problem fire weather likely 'for weeks to come' with heatwaves, little rainfall ahead | jennynoise

Six people have been killed and 479 homes have been destroyed so far in the fire season: "An awful statistic considering we are not yet in summer", Rural Fire Service deputy commissioner Rob Rogers tweeted on Sunday.

Mr Fraser said conditions are set to deteriorate further as the week progresses, with Tuesday and Thursday looking like "the days of most concern" as the heat and wind "ramps up".Temperatures are set to rise well into the 30s on Tuesday, with Sydney forecast to hit a top of 32 in the city and 39 in Penrith.

Fast-moving thunderstorms expected to hit the north coast on Thursday may bring hail and "squally" winds, and Mr Fraser said there is even potential for the storm clouds to combine with billowing smoke to form a "pyrocumulonimbus" cloud which can cause dangerous and unpredictable changes to fire behaviour.BOM

A spokesman for the Rural Fire Service said firefighting crews will be "doing what they can" to strengthen containment lines before conditions worsen – but outside of Sydney, fire conditions remain "quite volatile in some areas" on Sunday.

jennynoise How many bush fires will be caused by attempts to 'control the climate'?
