Competition for the most prestigious properties on the Mornington Peninsula has set a new eye-watering record for a holiday home.

The Portsea clifftop has chalked up a new record with the $30 million sale of Westbank, a lavish 1882 mansion by owners John and Sue Gibson.when it sold for $9.5 million.But the sale that transferred this week marks the first time a home on the Mornington Peninsula has reached $30 million and is the latest top-end deal to show the volume money pouring into Victoria’s playground of the ultra-wealthy.Competition for the most prestigious holiday homes in the second-largest state has been fierce.

That was topped in November with the $27 million sale of Yarowee at 178-180 Boyds Road in Flinders, a four-bedroom house on a 68-hectare property overlooking Bass Strait, Western Port Bay and Phillip Island. Developer Mr Gibson and Mrs Gibson paid $8.5 million for Westbank in 2008, $1 million below the price at which it had transacted just over a year earlier, records show.
