The inquest into the arson attack on the Whiskey Au Go Go nightclub in Fortitude Valley in 1973 is examining both the infamous crime and the police response.Two men, James Richard Finch and John Andrew Stuart, were convicted over the attack, but they were only charged with one count each of murder.
Detective Inspector Damien Hansen has led numerous high-profile homicide and major crime investigations.On Thursday, Sergeant Gray was herself embroiled in controversy when it emerged she had secretly kept recordings of her interviews with two retired police officers, totalling about two hours.Sergeant Gray did not explain why she only disclosed the existence of the recordings this week.
Detective Sergeant Virginia Gray compiled a report on the Whiskey Au Go Go fire for the current coronial inquest.Mr Gnech asked the coroner to order Sergeant Gray to disclose any further evidence or documents she might have related to his clients - retired police officers John Kolence and Peter Slatter.
