Police have urged workers in Melbourne CBD to leave work early if possible as Extinction Rebellion protesters gear up for more peak-hour disruptions.
The Extinction Rebellion climate protests movement has planned a "spring rebellion" from Monday to Sunday, including marches aimed at blocking traffic. In a statement a Victoria Police spokesperson said it "respects people's right to protest peacefully, but will continue to act swiftly when those actions are impacting on everyone else's right to go about their daily lives".
Earlier today a Melbourne Magistrate found bail conditions issued by police that restricted protesters who had been charged from taking any further part in protest action was found to be invalid.
Obstructing emergency workers is just not on! I’m sure they wouldn’t be doing it if their relatives were the ones needing emery help. Disgraceful Protest all you want, but don’t risk people’s lives doing so! 🤬
Pathetic. Shame on the police. How can a hundred people put a 5 million city into gridlock, not for one, not two, but five days, and on top of that they are announcing more disturbances.
