A large-scale land and sea search for a man and his dog has been launched off Manly, after an overnight boat capsize. NSW Police’s Marine Area Command was called to Sydney Harbour just before 5am on Saturday after receiving reports of a man calling for help.The Marine Area Command, in this file photo, rescued one man and continue to search for another and his dog.
“Police are now searching for the second man and his dog, described as being a large black and white Staffordshire-type dog,” NSW Police said at 8.45am on Saturday morning. “Police have been told there were no life jackets, lights, or safety equipment on board.” Police, surf life saving volunteers, PolAir and the Westpac rescue helicopter are now searching for the man.
On Saturday morning, NSW Minister for Emergency Services Steph Cooke urged people to be safe at the beach and on the water.“Don’t take risks unnecessarily, be mindful of your own capabilities. If you’re out and about boating, please wear a lifejacket. It’s really important. It could mean the difference between you losing your life or being safe at the end of an incident.”
