Northern Territory Police say the leg found on the Stuart Highway near Darwin on Tuesday was likely left after a hit-and-run - and the injury was survivable if the victim received urgent medical treatment.

A motorist made the grisly discovery near Coolalinga, about 29 kilometres south-east of Darwin, at about 10:30am on Tuesday.

Offer ends 31 October, 2022 “Information received since the event has occurred -from members of the public- has suggested that a collision has occurred at the location between the hours of 8pm and 9pm on Monday evening,” he said. Authorities are also requesting any witnesses to the crash, or those who saw any vehicles parking on the side of the road, to come forward.

“We’ve got witnesses to some sort of event taking place at the location and we’re investigating the information they’ve provided.”
