The scenes of confrontation in Sydney were a stark contrast to proceedings in other cities, where authorities praised organisers and participants.While Victoria Police was generally pleased with public behaviour at the Melbourne Black Lives Matter rally, organisers are still expected to be fined $1,652 each for breaching the directions of the chief health officer.
Victoria Police had earlier warned the Warriors of the Aboriginal Resistance they could face fines if they went ahead with the rally and on Saturday evening followed through on their warning. "We remain concerned that such a large gathering has occurred without regard for the need to maintain social distance and will now consider what action should be taken in relation to the organisation and conduct of this unlawful gathering," Assistant Commissioner Luke Cornelius said.
The assistant commissioner noted that although the meeting was unlawful, there were no arrests made during the protest and they were not aware of any acts of violence or property damage.In Adelaide, police Assistant Commissioner Peter Harvey praised the organisers and the crowd for their conduct during the rally."But people had a chance to have their say on what is a very topical, emotional and relevant issue in today's society.

From what I have seen -protestors were kettled into an underground station -they were denied any other exit from the area -the police moved in, and crowd started yelling and chanting -the police then sprayed protestors near them with a pepper spray -journalists were denied entry
