PM waters down political stoush as bushfires rage

The intense exchanges came as a political stoush developed in federal politics after Barnaby Joyce suggested two people who died in bushfires "most likely" voted for the Greens.

"There have been a lot of provocative comments made over the last few days from all sides of the debate and I find it very unhelpful," Mr Morrison told reporters in Canberra. "That's the last thing I want to do. What I wanted to concentrate on is the policies that we can mitigate these tragedies happening again in the future."

On Monday, Nationals leader Michael McCormack attacked "raving inner-city lunatics" for linking climate change to the fires. Federal Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese and Ms Saffin became the targets of multiple heated exchanges with members of the public during a fire ground visit in the town of Nimbin.

"It's nice that everyone's come down, but what I see is bread and circus while Rome is burning," one Nimbin resident told Mr Albanese today. We need to use historical satellite imagery to zoom in on the origin point of the fires, identify the arsonists involved. I’m not suggesting those arsonists are PC Left climate extremists, they might just be children or teens.
