Prime Minister Scott Morrison has urged Australians to lend an "elbow of support" to Victorians, describing the stage four lockdown as "heartbreaking". Mr Morrison unveiled a $1500 disaster payment for Victorian workers forced to self-isolate who did not have enough sick leave left or didn't qualify for other government subsidies, ensuring they had no financial incentive to break isolation.

"We've asked so much of Australians over these many months and we've asked even more of Victorians and now we're asking - through the Victoria Premier - even more," he said. "We know we have to help them push through because Australia's future depends on the weeks and months ahead. "What we're dealing with here is a disaster and we need to respond on the basis of the way we provide support in the midst of disaster.

Vic govt’s ‘state of disaster’ is something ‘we’re all going to pay for’ | Sky News AustraliaBroadcaster Michael McLaren says Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews “declared a state of disaster (but) he should have declared a state of disaster in his own administration probably three months ago”.\n\n“Clearly it’s the returned arrivals and the so-called hotel quarantine which has been the catalyst for the outbreak which has in their mind necessitated these changes,” Mr McLaren told Sky News host Alan Jones.\n\n“The people that instigated the problem are now saying ‘we’ve got the answers''. \n\nMr Jones noted Daniel Andrews was offered up to 1000 experienced defence force personnel to oversee the arrival of travellers from overseas and their 14 day enforced quarantine, an offer which he rejected.\n\n“There should have been far greater insistence from Scott Morrison that they follow the line that New South Wales and Queensland took cause it worked, but they had other ideas and of course now we’re all going to pay for it,” Mr McLaren said.\n\nImage: Getty DanielAndrewsMP Wow, this level of insight and commentary, outstanding. Workers without sick leave to get $1,500 'disaster payment' in VictoriaThe Federal Government will introduce a $1,500 'disaster payment' for workers who need to self-isolate but do not have sick leave Prime Minister Scott Morrison says. Gee I wonder where he got that idea.... Great for those who need to self isolate. What about workers who don't have access to JobKeeper or JobSeeker? Are they supposed to pay bills with promises and eat air for six weeks? A lot of them spent their savings to get through the first round of lockdowns. Hasn't Premier Andrews already established this for Victorians❓ Maybe the PM should do it for the other states instead

ADF prepares to send 500 personnel to Vic | Sky News AustraliaDefence personnel are preparing to be deployed to Victoria as the state's crisis escalates with most expected to be sent into aged care homes.\n\nThere are about 1,500 Australian Defence Force members on the ground in Melbourne who are door-knocking homes and helping enforce the lockdown with police.\n\nMore support is expected to be deployed to the city and the rest of the state over the coming days.\n\nDefence Minister Linda Reynolds confirmed there are 500 more on standby. Too little too late This is about China’s intentions for Victoria. Not just about the virus. Good on Victoria for this, still not sure why they did not accept the offer for ADF personel to guard the quarantined travellers earlier. But glad to see they have changed their mind on using them now. 👍

‘Disaster level lockdown’ a consequence of the Victorian government's 'failure' | Sky News AustraliaThe Australian’s Political Editor Dennis Shanahan says Victoria has been forced to go into a “disaster level lockdown” as a consequence of its government's failure to implement strategies to fight the deadly novel coronavirus.\n\nVictoria currently has 6,322 COVID-19 cases active, recording over 400 new cases in the last 24 hours.\n\n“Sydney had a greater problem with quarantine than Melbourne, Sydney had more people coming in from overseas, it managed its quarantine” Mr Shanahan told Sky News host Peta Credlin.\n\n“There was an outbreak, it was controlled in New South Wales, there was an outbreak in Victoria, and it hasn’t been controlled.\n\n“So now, we’ve had to go to this disaster level lockdown, it’s because the implementation of the strategy failed.”\n\nImage: Getty Why does continue to politicise the pandemic when unity and cooperation is more important to the community’s lives & livelihoods. Because dear reader they don’t give a damm about the community. So it has nothing to do with people breaking the COVID rules going to work after testing positive and spreading the virus. Does it
