The Australian Medical Association has urged states and territories to temporarily stop lifting coronavirus restrictions in the wake of the spike in cases and outbreaks in Melbourne.

The AMA's president Tony Bartone said the 108 new cases revealed in Victoria on Saturday acted as a"stark reminder" that the pandemic is not yet over.

AMA president Tony Bartone said the roll-back of coronavirus restrictions should be paused, as Victoria deals with a number of outbreaks."These new outbreaks send a strong signal that the other states should rethink the pace of easing of their COVID-19 restrictions until community transmission in Melbourne is under control to avoid the risk of a similar situation playing out in their own communities," he said.

"Before rushing back to the pub, the footy crowds, or the big weddings and parties, Australia should pause and play it safe until the Melbourne hotspots are back under control."Of the 94 new COVID-19 cases announced across Australia on Sunday by the Deputy Chief Medical Officer Paul Kelly, all of the positive infections outside of Victoria were returned travellers in hotel quarantine. Victoria accounted for 74 positive cases.

But instead, Victoria was forced to lockdown 12 different postcodes over the last week, with residents only able to leave for the essentials such as food, exercise, work, and for care-giving purposes. Nine public housing towers in Melbourne were subject to a 'hard lockdown' for five days - meaning residents could not leave - from Saturday afternoon.

Premier Daniel Andrews said it is likely Victoria will see some “big numbers” when it comes to cases in the coming days, but it will be part because of the widespread testing carried out statewide.

Well from what I can gather no restrictions have been lifted some have been put back on 9 towers people can’t leave for at least 5 days maybe more in vic and restrictions won’t ease until numbers are better a lot better

Everyone does the right thing then a bunch of eneducated turfs stuff it up for everyone else. We need a hard line for those not self isolating

Kneejerk reaction by AMA. Pipe down and let the states reopen. We cant bankrupt the country even further Future generations will wonder wtf were we thinking!! 🤔

debbles_mccoy ScuMo may not like it but eventually we're going to realise that our target should be elimination, for both health and economic reasons.

LyndaFrench19 Why are we still bringing overseas planes into Australia they have the same problems with the virus as did the cruise ships? Why are we putting the rest of Australia at risk?

Get stuffed

All States should do tracing like Victoria, not only on new arrivals so that we can be certain everyone is free from virus. Only then borders can be open between States and we can go back to normal life.

And by the way one of the most successful & destructive lobby groups in Australia for the last 30 years is the Pharmacy Guild - sponsored by big pharma: It’s a sight to be seen watching this group pull the puppet strings through the Houses of Parliament. Time to build back better

Perhaps the AMA can go without income for a month as a measure of their willingness to be in this together and donate their pay to charity....but I reckon no way

Surprise! We all knew this was coming....

Asher_Wolf So… peasants need to petition the king?

The AMA are now far from the AMA of their founders. Captured by big pharma and food cartels they have no grasp on rationality. The AMA have refused to push a healthy diet, exercise, genetic understanding as examples of their conflict/corruption. Time to build back better.

No !!! They have no idea of the financial impact on individuals and familys . Why ? Because on this basis they are fully , if not over employed!

What Canberra looked like during the coronavirus lockdownAs Canberra slowly emerges from the the most severe coronavirus restrictions, we take a visual tour of the nation's capital under COVID-19 restrictions. It looked boring Prob looked the same as what always does... dull 🙄 Canberra haters begone! You clearly have no idea what a great, liveable city this is, in spite of the property developers taking over in recent years. Is it envy and jealousy, or just wilful ignorance?

WHO expects to sees first results from COVID-19 drug trials within two weeksThe World Health Organization says it should soon see interim results from clinical studies of possible treatments for COVID-19, involving close to 5,500 recruits in 39 countries. Is the WHO sure about this, Id hate to see them lose the one thing they have done well about this virus...their consistency Who doesn't acknowledge the virus came from China If the government said it was the law to eat dog shit everyday, would everyone do it? or question it and not do it. Why do we get minimal information about this virus and we cannot ask questions. We live in the year 2020 and were getting told to wash our hands. WTF?
