Sun Cable dramatically upscales plans to build a $30 billion solar farm in the NT, as Indonesia greenlights an undersea cable to Singapore.

Plans to build the world largest solar farm in the Northern Territory have been scaled up by as much as 40 per cent, with the estimated costs rising from $22 billion to $30 billion.Indonesia has approved an undersea cable through its territory to SingaporeSun Cable also announced on Thursday it had received crucial approval from the Indonesian government to allow an undersea cable to run through its territorial waters to Singapore.

NT Chief Minister Michael Gunner said the project will inject $8 billion into the Australian economy, with "most of it being spent right here in the Northern Territory". "It's a significant increase, but we've done that because that enhances the returns for the project," he said.Sun Cable Australia CEO David Griffin spoke to ABC Darwin about the project.

If the project goes to plan, it will provide Singapore with up to 15 per cent of its electricity needs from 2028, the company said.

ShockHorror The area of land is about the same size as greater Sydney ~ 120 sq km WILL ONLY SUPPLY 15% of Singapore's needs after 2028...FOLLY Singapore population atm...5.9 Million

And stupidity grows bigger still, solar only works best 9-4 when least needed, media always show panels and not the associated inverters for this or storage to smooth it during cloudy days add the total cost, no return on investment. Just BS

Building it is one thing, keeping the panels clean will be a full time job, the red dust will cover ‘everything’.

Ha how funny is this. The largest solar farm in the world - built in Australia, to store and transmit electricity to Singapore. All of it. Yet we can’t build this for our own power requirements

Ugly

Surely it would be more practical to clear a huge amount of rain forest in Borneo, if it hasn’t been cleared already. But if it’s going to be built, I’m glad it’s in Australia.

Aust. is making PROGRESS at least in a vital area!!🤔👍🤔🇦🇺🤔👍🇦🇺

Reason at last…

What an environmental eyesore

And that's good for the environment, is it? Can i invest in waste management? Because they'll have plenty of work cleaning that up in 10 years.

At what cost to the taxpayer.?

Wet season

All that petroleum derived plastic covering landmas size of small European country....and we call that green? Meanwhile as a country with 70% of world Uranium reserves we could be running modern Nuclear plant and have zero carbon unlimi energy.

Now we're talking

I don’t understand how environmentalists think digging a mine is destroying the environment when they are completely fine with this shit, this is worse then a mine

And where is the power planned to go to?

Lol, that’s pretty big 😅👍
