Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has told the United States he is scrapping a bilateral Visiting Forces Agreement, following through on repeated threats to downgrade the defence alliance

Defence ties between the Philippines and its former colonial ruler go back to the early 1950s and are governed by a Mutual Defence Treaty, which remains intact along with an Enhanced Defence Cooperation Agreement made under the Obama administration.Duterte made the decision after the top commander of his war on drugs, former police chief Ronald dela Rosa, said his US visa had been rescinded over an issue related to the detention of a senator and top critic of Duterte.

It is the first time Duterte has scrapped an agreement with the US, having throughout his more than three years in office denounced Washington for hypocrisy and for treating the Philippines "like a dog on a leash".

Deal for Rugby Australia to buy Shute Shield rights imminentAn agreement is expected on Tuesday for Rugby Australia's attempt to purchase the rights to Sydney and Brisbane's premier club competitions. geerob Presumably the players will want a slice of the action. It's their bodies on the screen. geerob So will the Shute Shield still be on FTA TV? And will Tony Lewis, Andrew Swain and Cameron Shepherd et al still be in the commentary team? Don’t let club rugby disappear behind a paywall. geerob I can’t see how this could be any good at all for rugby fans unless rugby ends up on Free To Air. On Pay TV, even less people will watch. This reads like a PR release from Rugby Australia, Georgina.
