Perth mum convicted for smacking her daughter with a wooden spoon

Tania, 35, faced a Perth court today over an incident at their home in Ellenbrook in October last year.Tania has been convicted of common assault for smacking her child with a wooden spoon.

Police prosecutors said the assault happened after the child took old meat from the fridge and ate it. Her mother had warned her not to touch it as it was for the dogs and had medicine inside it meant for the pets. “My daughter actually took out some food that I had in the fridge that was meant for the dogs the next day, and it had medication for the dogs,” Tania told 9News.

“I woke up in the morning she was nice and quiet just sitting in the theatre room eating away these burgers that were supposed to be for the dogs.”

I can appreciate this Mum's frustration & left a hand-mark on my son many yrs ago,last time I smacked him because I knew I'd crossed that invisible line.

Oh for god sake grow up people we all got the wooden spoon as kids

A lot of people on here without kids or they are highly medicated..

I am more curious to know who reported it. Am sure similar things happen in every household. For those of you who say it’s assault, tell me you have never yelled at your child ( which can be seen as verbal assault). The justice system really needs to refocus their priorities

Hitting a child is not OK. If you lose your shit enough to hit a child then as an adult you have anger issues. If she was that worried she should have taken the child to the doctor. Not acceptable

Funny how you can assault a child with needles and toxic injections from the day they are born but once they develop behavioural issues you have to stop assaulting them 🤔

What a beat up, I hope she has the sense to start a go fund me to cover her costs. Christ my mother used to buy them in packets of 3 and break one across my ass or legs almost weekly.

Why was there old meat in the fridge. Obviously the child was starving. Mom needs to be fed old meat. Take the child to someone who can feed, clothe her,etc.

In the old days most mums used a wooden spoon. The nuns used a thick strap. It may hurt some but we learned respect.

Smacking a child just shows an adult that can’t control themselves

What an unjustifiable reason to assault a child - taking old meat from the fridge. All she had to do, was to take the meat away from the child, explaining that it was not suitable food to eat, and would she like something else to eat instead! So simple!

So many aggressive angry mums/women around, a gender in disarray.

Discipline is now assault. Sad. To the thinking corner then
