The January 10 start date means that a significant percentage of the estimated 2.3 million children aged 5 to 11 in Australia will be able to get at least their first dose of the vaccine before the 2022 school year starts in February.
Ahead of the announcement on Sunday, Prime Minister Scott Morrison said: “There is nothing more important than the health of our children. That’s why we made sure these vaccines got the rigorous review of Australia’s top health experts. Dozens of schools across NSW, Victoria and the ACT have been forced to temporarily close after becoming exposure sites since the state and territory governments began to ease restrictions and live with COVID-19.Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt said TGA approval brought kids aged five to 11 “a step closer” to receiving a safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine.
The child-specific Pfizer vaccine has 10 micrograms of mRNA in each shot rather than the 30 micrograms administered to adults. The doses are expected to arrive in Australia in the days before Christmas and will be batch-tested by the TGA before the rollout starts. However, vaccine experts have said there is no reason, yet, to bring forward the rollout of booster shots because of the Omicron variant as more information is needed about the new strain.

It should be a crime to vaccinate healthy kids with immune systems capable of warding off any covid variant. The risk vs reward does not stack up for that age group… Finland’s health watchdog does not recommend vaccination for children aged 5-11yrs old.

Surprise surprise...another strollout. To have vaccination fully effective before school starts, the first dose needs to be before Christmas and second dose mid January!
