The gold, silver and bronze medallist, who had spoken of living with unbroken pain due to an incurable, degenerative disease, ends her life in Belgium, where euthanasia is legal.

"I'm still enjoying every little moment. When the moment comes, when I have more bad days than good days, then I have my euthanasia papers, but the time is not there yet,"Vervoort had lived with a degenerative muscle disease that caused constant pain, paralysis in her legs and left her barely able to sleep.

She won the 100m gold and 200m silver wheelchair races at the 2012 London Games, as well as the 400m silver and 100m bronze in Brazil four years later. "After the Paralympic Games, when I quit, I'm going to enjoy every little moment in my life and I'm going to put more energy in my family and friends, which I couldn't do with top sports because I had to train every day," she said in 2016.She said in Rio that access to legal assisted dying had given her the courage to continue living for as long as she had, and insisted the practice should not be characterised as"murder".

What a stupid, selfish & cowardly suicide. She could have offered herself as a subject for gene therapy research, potentially saving herself & if not many others from suffering in the future. Genetics is accelerating at the moment, even holding on for 6 months makes a difference.

What a brave & courageous soul. Death is a human right like any other

Last-ditch bid to delay WA voluntary euthanasia laws in face of Government warningsWA's voluntary assisted dying bill is at risk of being heavily delayed, with a push underway in the Upper House to put a final vote on hold until well into 2020. Hospitals will only give a certain amount of pain medication. They won’t give you enough to be pain free because they worry it might kill you & result in lawsuits. There is no such thing as a pain free death. I support voluntary euthanasia. I support the right to choice wapol The pro lifers should allow others to have a choice. It's a law that gives people the right to decide. If you choose pain killers, it's your choice. If you choose to end the pain, it's your choice. I don't understand why people are against this.
