'One of their best': Jubelin praised ahead of sentencing over illegal recordings | gmitch_news

The former lead investigator on the William Tyrrell case has been lauded in court as committed, tenacious, honest and decent as he awaits sentencing for illegally recording four conversations during the investigation into the toddler's disappearance.

Three of the conversations were at Mr Savage's Kendall home, while a fourth was recorded when Jubelin put his phone on loudspeaker at police headquarters in Sydney and told another officer to record.High-profile supporters of Jubelin – including NSW Greens politician David Shoebridge, former NSW Police deputy commissioner Nick Kaldas, and senior barrister Mark Tedeschi QC – gave evidence on Wednesday that he has always acted with the utmost integrity.

Crown prosecutor Philip Hogan told a sentence hearing there may be a view that "the ends justify the means" given the seriousness of William's disappearance, but the offending was "very serious" and "infringes fundamental civil rights". Jubelin's barrister Margaret Cunneen, SC, said her client has faced significant punishment, including media attention, and today had a man shout at him in the street: "we're gonna have fun in jail mate, you deserve it, you're scum".
