The port city of Fremantle in Western Australia is enjoying a tourism windfall courtesy of an unscheduled detour by thousands of passengers and crew on the Queen Mary 2.

The port city of Fremantle is enjoying a tourism windfall courtesy of an unscheduled detour by thousands of passengers and crew on board the enormous Queen Mary 2 luxury cruise liner. The ship changed schedule to avoid cities in Asia over coronavirus fearsThe ship had visited the Thai island of Phuket earlier this month and was due to travel through Singapore, Vietnam and Hong Kong before docking at Fremantle in March.

But cruise operator Cunard cancelled the South-East Asian leg of the round-the world cruise, citing a desire to"mitigate the risks to our guests and crew" posed by coronavirus travel bans and port restrictions. Passengers spent two weeks at sea while the itinerary was changed, with the ship ultimately docking at Fremantle today, a month early. It would stay in port for two days before sailing on a revised itinerary through northern and eastern Australia, returning to Fremantle in mid-March.

It meant thousands of passengers and crew would end up spending two more nights than originally planned in the city. After two weeks spent at sea, passengers were glad to set foot on land after arriving in Fremantle this morning. "We're grateful we're not just sailing in circles on the ocean," passenger Linda Corcoran, from the United States, said.

The coronavirus crisis was made in China, but no one will say itBeijing was initially praised for swiftly circulating abroad the vital clinical details of the virus, subsequent revelations show the opposite is true. Well why not, everything else is made in China, practically everything I buy has a 'Made in China' tag on it. Who knows what they get up to, they are a communist country with a seriously bad reputation for human rights and yet we trade with them, how's it going in Hong Kong btw ? One of those moments where you go lack of knowledge on how pandemics occur produces hysterical reporting. At this point China is controlling a slow spread of a very contagious virus. While they are doing this it gives everyone time to find a vaccine.
