NSW, Victoria report 66 new COVID-19 deaths but hospitalisations fall

New South Wales reported 46 COVID-19 deaths on Friday, the highest number of fatalities the state has recorded since the start of the pandemic, while Victoria reported 20 fatalities.

Hospitalisations in both states have fallen over the last 24 hours - down nine per cent in Victoria from 1,206 to 1,096 and more than one per cent in NSW, from 2,781 to 2,743. Of the hospitalised patients in NSW, 209 are in ICU, down from 212 on Thursday, while the figure also dropped in Victoria from 122 to 121.In the 24-hour reporting period to 8pm last night:- 93.9% of people aged 16+ have had two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine

So sad to see a state leader basically say it’s okay to see so many people in hospital and ICU because the numbers are better than they predicted. Congratulations Dom and Brad I’m sure the families of those sick think you’ve both done an outstanding job!

So glad my premier is doing his job keeping us safe.

All those new cases and with such a high vaccination level... l guess the vax doesn't work? wouldn't you say!

I am feeling a lot of anger. Why is the decision by Dom Perrotet, with the urging of Scott Morrison, to 'let it rip' with Omicron and as a consequence resulting in hundreds of deaths, not being held to account? These are needless deaths and the buck stops with government.

Still not as bad as the Flu in 2019. Stop with all the bull💩.

The daily numbers I wish to see are 1. How many total have had COVID and recovered. 2. How many in ICU now and 3. Total deaths and deaths by age, those with other major contributing health problems and unvaxed. At least then we can have perspective over scaremongering
