NSW has recorded another 1083 new locally acquired cases of COVID-19, and another 13 deaths with the virus as the state braces for pressure to build on hospital intensive care units in coming weeks.
Among the dead was an unvaccinated man in his 40s who died at home in western Sydney, and was only diagnosed with COVID-19 after his death. Nine of the 13 deaths had not received the vaccine, while two had received both doses but were older patients with underlying conditions, NSW Health’s Jeremy McAnulty said.Dr McAnulty said the new case numbers were “very encouraging”. However, numbers in hospitals continue to grow.
In what it described as a “middle ground” position paper, released on Sunday, the peak medical body broadly backs the Doherty Institute’s thresholds for reopening the country once 70 and 80 per cent of the population aged 16 and over is vaccinated. The AMA’s statement, supported by its 35-member federal council, is intended to bridge a growing divide between those agitating for a faster reopening and those calling for even more caution.and a massive police operation, while NSW recorded 1331 new COVID-19 cases and six deaths.
AMA President Omar Khorshid said there were strong views on either side of the reopening debate and that “both are kind of right, so what we’re saying is if you do the right things, if you follow the Doherty report properly and not just pick the bits you like, there is a path out of this”.and one death on Sunday, ahead of the state government revealing its road map to ease restrictions once vaccination targets are reached.

If she wasn't in politics, it wouldn't be surprising to her in the so called 'freedom' protests that's making life difficult for anyone who understands the seriousness of covid. Yes, we have to live with covid but that doesn't mean we can ignore it and take it lightly.
If the leader of the state is not serious, how can the people be? I think she is smiling because her job as PR person for the vaccine role out is working which is the only thing she cares about.
Gladys and her team failed miserably in containing the virus because they didn't take this issue seriously from the very beginning. She was blinded by her ego that she put people's lives at risk to the point where she even overruled health advice.

The surge is expected from the majority of unvaccinated. Vaccinated will catch it too, but they’ll be in the vast minority. Those with other health conditions may still die. It’s important not to mix vaccinated/unvaccinated until we hit 90%+ coverage and develop herd immunity.
