NSW Premier justified $90,000 pay rise for Police Commissioner before plan to freeze public sector wages

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian justified a nearly $90,000 pay rise for Police Commissioner Mick Fuller just months before proposing a freeze on the wages of public sector workers.NSW Police officers had their 2.5% wage increase put on hold for 12 monthsThe ABC has obtained a letter sent in late March to the Remuneration Tribunal, the body which ultimately decided Commissioner Fuller's $86,826 pay rise.

In the letter, Ms Berejiklian said "it was appropriate that the role receive a level of remuneration which reflects the role and responsibilities".She pointed to other senior office holders such as the Australian Federal Police Commissioner, the Australian Border Force Commissioner and the Queensland Police Commissioner who all earned more than Commissioner Fuller.Commissioner Fuller was earning $562,674, after taking on the role in April 2017.

Mr Borsak said the party would be voting with Labor, the Greens, the Animal Justice Party and possibly One Nation to have the regulation disallowed and said the Government should have been more consultative."It is a slap in the face and a kick in the guts for all public sector employees," she said. "How dare she reward these nurses and those 100,000 other health workers in NSW with a pay cut. They deserve a medal, not pay cut."with significant write-downs over the next four years.

ENQUIRY ENQUIRY ENQUIRY

I don’t agree with this decision

Lol

He needs to show us 'we're all in this together' by having the good grace to refuse increase.

This decision by the koalakiller premier is disgraceful. We should be out in the streets over this...Nurses, Police etc have just risked their lives for us and to repay them like this is a betrayal.

While lots of people lost jobs struggling to make payments and feed family, he gets pay raise with public tax payers. It's ssucks to high heaven.

'Gladys Berejiklian justified a nearly $90,000 pay rise for Police Commissioner Mick Fuller ' .......... for services rendered?

No way GladysB

Hmmm so . . . Not everyone is having their wages frozen. Only some of us are in it together . . . Now Auspol

Disgrace!

berejiklians evil and diabolic attack on workers must see her go, no one deservers that pay ,especially after his appalling performance with the virus and the bushfires, he is totally incompetent and a fraud like berejiklian

I’d be inclined to think all public servants would show humility and accept a deferment of any pay increases until this pandemic is cover. No backdating of increases irrespective!

And long after building a hugely over budget and underperforming electric tortoise to carry not many people around the eastern suburbs... ooh and let's not forget the stadium...🤬

What is the starting salary of a police officer? The average salary of a serving front line police officer? auspol

That would employ 1 police constable for a year

Camouflaging what she wanted to do due to COVID19 necessities is disgraceful

So wrong

Unjustified.

he would retire with super fat super going on cruises

It's more protection money that a pay raise. GladysB RubyDutton

We are not all in this together

ESL and Medibank Private rates, Water, Gas, Electricity, all essential etc... are also on the increased in 6 months times. So everyone’s wages freeze, but this one increased is just incredible!

Wow, double my wages with just one pay rise! Out of this world!

He was neighbours with ScottyFromMarketing He glossed over any ‘investigations’ that would incriminate LNPCrimeFamily Also; His mouth looks like a cat’s bum sucked on a lemon. Corruption AuspolSoCorrupt

Seriously speechless

Let’s not forget the coverup he was in the middle of for GladysB and RubyDutton

Gotta see your thugs are well paid for any social unrest ahead

How smart are these people! Do they think everybody else is blind or stupid?

It's necessary to outbid the criminals, they'd be willing to pay at least that a year for a police commissioner.

She's sick!

AnthonyCole68

The NSW premier absolutely has to go. You guys and girls gotta cote her out at tye next election. She’s probably the worst in Australia right now.

That's just bulshit. He doesn't deserve it.

There’s obviously some sausage hiding going there!

JulieLyford Disgusting. I hope they’re voted out at the next opportunity

Great! $90k of increment then 10% reduction. Nice deal ! I will talk to my boss tomorrow.

What did the Police Commissioner do or not do to warrant the windfall?

Another LNPfail

While she could justify nurses and teachers would have to take the pay freeze? I don’t think so!

Just look at him -Look over his interviews -that man along with so many of them in the higher ranks of the police force are simply Foul people - Animals employing animals - dogs that half smart politicians who them selfs brake the law and use to their bidding

Not really! That raise is some people’s annual salary!

Morrison owes him.

yeah of course, this crap is ripe year after year in any brand government, so why report it

Outrageous.........

Strip searching kids is expensive

Why does pond scum float to the top. How do they regard us let alone their public servant comrades. They eat beluga caviar and we get told to soldier on. What if there is another lock down, do they have foresight other than securing their own fat arses. EVIL.

Boeufblogginon A scandal.

This is normal for any government in Aus, LNP or Labor. Ridiculous.

It's a shame GladysB and her politician mates haven't made any sacrifices. The Labor party can't say anything either as they too have not made any sacrifices. I take back what I previously said a couple of weeks ago about her doing a great job. Same old Govt crap.

What a waste of money. I'm sure he'd strip search children for free.

Oh thats why the hefty fines for seeing your family and getting sunshine

This is utter crap, nobody is worth that much money, it's a disgrace.

When every one else is taking a pay cut, MPs and Senior public servants think it's ok to take a pay rise. They are so out of touch with the community that they say they serve.....

Must be a relation?

Isn't this the bloke who lives next door to ScottyFomMarketing the one who investigated Angus Taylor and the one who is leading the investigation into the Ruby Princess. This has the hallmark of the usual LNP stench. Didn't know my fucking arse!!!

Is it just me, or does this bloke look REALLY dodgy?

That's a little arrogant don't you think.

Any decent leader or person with a conscience would have deferred the raise till later.

NSW = FUCKED

No one should be able to become indulgently wealthy on the tax payers dollar. Obviously the station should come with a decent pay packet but this is ridiculous.

If this nonsense keeps going even Australians will be on the streets! ( physically distanced of course!)

No, tried to...

How many individual police officers would have their usual pay increase (which they intend to freeeze) covered by his individual pay rise?

Services rendered?

Outrageous! LNPfail

Damn. Maybe we're a decade behind the USA after all

Let them all eat cake!

What a joke

Very good example 👍😉😉👍

Lot of money for a Bin man

It was stated by the commissioner in the daily telegraph he didn’t want the payrise and Elliot and Gladys still put it through.

Take it back off him!!

Accept public sector pay freeze or jobs could be lost, NSW government tells parliamentNSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has raised the possibility of public sector job losses amid the COVID-19 pandemic unless a proposed 12-month pay freeze is endorsed by parliament. The public sector needs to be audited and have any unesential jobs made redundant tis not fair for taxpayers to be propping up the bloated inefficient public sector at this triyng time 1/2 I hope you referring to the politicians who have wasted billions on bandaid solution after bandaid solution in almost all sectors in order to get through to the next election rather than implement appropriate long termcost saving strategies. Sorry, but if the public sector can't see the need for a twelve month freeze, given the present national situation, then perhaps it's time to start shedding some of the self interested.

'Find the money elsewhere': Premier faces backlash over public sector pay freezeThe NSW Government faces significant opposition to its public sector pay freeze as the Shooters, Fishers and Farmers join Labor, the Greens and the Animal Justice Party in fighting the proposal. Now if only we could do the same for TheirABC tax hoovers. GladysB didn't think she would cop some type of backlash over the wage freeze. Maybe if the times were different but not now when it hits frontline workers the hardest. Maybe Comm Mick Fuller could defer his $87K pay increase till times are better. NSW govt met with backlash over public sector pay freeze | Sky News AustraliaThe New South Wales government is trying to win support for its public sector pay-rise freeze. \n\nThe decision – which would see 400,000 public servants go without a pay-rise for 12 months - was met with a wave of criticism when announced on Wednesday. \n\nNSW Opposition leader Jodi McKay said the move would be a “punch in the guts” for those who worked on the frontline throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. \n\nState Treasurer Dominic Perrottet said the move was vital if New South Wales was to save current jobs in the public sector and create new jobs in the private sector. \n\nThe move, if successful, would come with the guarantee there would be no forced redundancies in the public sector other than senior executives. \n\nThe proposal, which would save an estimated $3 billion, will be reliant on support in the Upper House. Many have had NO PAY for three months & they'd have to pay for it. Anyone who aposes this shows their total disregard for struggling taxpayers at the hands of government mismanagement, sack anyone who does. Suffering for their art: creative accounting!?
