A NSW Police scheme aimed at identifying people at risk of committing crimes disproportionately targeted Indigenous young people with “unreasonable, unjust and oppressive” tactics, an investigation has found.

A New South Wales Police scheme aimed at identifying people at risk of committing crimes disproportionately targeted Indigenous young people with “unreasonable, unjust and oppressive” tactics, anThe investigation specifically sought to understand the way the Suspect Targeting Management Plan , a “predictive policing strategy” targeted towards individual offenders, was being used to monitor young people between nine and 17 years old.

People identified as STMP targets were more likely to come into contact with police, through stop, search and detain actions, home visits and patrols, and the issuing of warnings and notices, which could in some cases increase their risk of offending in the future. The LECC investigation also found many young people were placed on the STMP despite never having been charged with a crime.

“The Commission finds the development and definition of the STMP in its application to young people bears the insignia of being unreasonable, unjust or oppressive.”Many of the young people on the list were not informed they were a STMP target.

Now where have I heard of this before...

Correlation does not equal causation. Police are human beings. If you take statements from 20 victims and 19 report Aboriginal appearance in their report, will that influence your future police work? Very likely. Not racist, merely having influenced judgement by past experience.

LennaLeprena Just correct me if I am wrong, this is targeted racism?

At risk of committing crimes 🙄. Can we preemptively jail cops for being at risk of committing racism?

That's because Aboriginals & TS Islanders who make up 2% of the population make up 28% of the prison population. Why? Because they can't follow the rule of law, hence why the police target their youth. Free legal advice - Obey the law, get a job and the cops won't bother you

These kids need someone to step in and stop them as the parents are not

Cameras?

yet again, sounds about white.
