The Herald's View: The riots in Victoria could easily spread to NSW. If they do, the government should take firm steps in the interest of community health

Ugly anti-vaccination protests in Melbourne’s CBD over the past two days are a warning that even as lockdowns start to ease, NSW could face similar battles over health restrictions.

That is clearly true for some but, privately, even some in the unions concede perhaps a third or half of those in the Melbourne crowd on Monday morning were members.ago that many blue-collar unions feared that outside forces were using these concerns to infiltrate their membership. Yet, NSW must be vigilant to the threat posed by the anti-lockdown and anti-vaccination movement which could grow stronger in coming weeks.

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has been preparing the state for many weeks for a period in coming weeks, and perhaps months, when hospitals may be “overwhelmed” by new cases.

No they won’t because NSW is not the tinderbox Vic is - after 20 months in lockdown & a roadmap to nowhere people have lost hope. Then add untouchable CFMEU who have glided through COVID suddenly having their dummy taken away. No other state is this ducked NoPlanDan

SMH supporting Dictator Dans agenda as it has the whole time talk about biased partisan hacks

Says the SMH who comfortably work at home behind laptops with a guaranteed income

The Heralds View “we hope they spread to NSW it’s good for business…”

Not likely, all the planned protests so far have been hampered or made impossible by locking out people from the CBD. Plus most of us have seen there is a percentage of ‘instigators’ that are there to cause trouble. And NSW is Liberal not Labor so not as unpopular with the nazis

No excuse for this behaviour

The riots in Vic came from the spread of the Gladys virus into Victoria in the first place. auspol The 'something should be done' should have been done by useless Gladys back in June. Instead she's infected half the country.

These neanderthals can not be allowed to undermine the health and safety of Australia. I bet all those 'idiots' have not watched what China is threatening to do to us and they don't want a needle. I bet communism is a lot more painful and and you have no say.

Interest of the “Globalists” Agenda, NWO! Stop vaccination /PCR there would be no “Covid”! It is genetic, synthetic material, CGI circulated around! Melbourne MelbourneProtest Eureka

I don’t agree with violence, but when you take people’s livelihoods away in a dictatorial fashion for a virus that materially effects no more than 10% of the population, people will start to speak up, rightly or wrongly. A divided Australia is a sad look though.

Medicine is a poor excuse to not only deprive people of choice but also if freedom of expression.

NSW is easing its COVID-19 restrictions for fully vaccinated people despite record numbers of new infections. The changes come after Premier Gladys Berejiklian promised people they'd be given some freedoms when the state surpassed 6 million vaccinations. That happened this week.

'the government should take firm steps' Ever since the invention of the printing press, it takes for main stream media to do the tyrants bidding to ensure the broad masses applaud when dissenters are dealt with harshly.

Lefty loosy righty tighty

Who writes this nonsense? There is Buckley’s this will happen in NSW at this point.

LJMW169 Can you ask your boss if there’s any chance the PM will speak out against the riots?

Relax, you have Newscorp onside. You'll be fine.

World record days in lockdown. Shocking governance since day 1 of the pandemic with hotel quarantine fails and 6 lockdowns. Then they have the gonads to blame the people for the position we find ourselves in. No wonder they have snapped. Think NSW will avoid these scenes 🤞🏻

What do you suggest? 🤔

NSW is at 83% first dose vaccination, likely will reach 90%+. There’s no need for any further vaccination mandates, which means it’s very unlikely we’d see similar scenes as Melbourne. On top of this we have restrictions easing in a few weeks.

How NSW and Victoria arrived at two different road mapsVictorians will wait up to a month longer for some freedoms granted to NSW residents from early October. This is the reason for the difference covid covid19 lockdown NSW victoria If Andrews=Good and Gladys=Bad as many here seem to say, why are the cases in Vic trending up and Trending down in NSW? The Age has failed as an independent news source & entered dangerous territory. Now selling misinformation, undermining public health & providing comfort to those who seek chaos. The LNP think they can benefit from this but they are in as much danger as the other parties. The main difference here is that NSW was prioritised ahead of other states by the federal Government, receiving not only additional doses of vaccine but also allocation of army resources to set up extra vaccine hubs) from the federal Govt, whilst Victoria waits
