Details of a hotel quarantine policy blunder puts in question New South Wales’ reputation as the “gold standard leader” in handling pandemics.

Sky News host Chris Smith said the revelation the NSW government only just now mandated masks for hotel quarantine guards was “inexplicable”. “I had to read this twice. I cannot believe this wasn't a rule already,” he said.

“For some inexplicable reason, up until now, security guards were not required to wear any personal protective equipment when sitting or walking around the floors”. The change comes after a returning traveller blew the whistle on a guard who was sitting outsider her hotel room not wearing a mask. “At least a problem no longer exists,” Mr Smith said. “But among all the ticks and gold stamps New South Wales has received for their quarantine and protocols, this one has a big red cross next to it.

Remember the only one who called NSW gold standard was the fool Morrison

GladysB BradHazzard Hey Gladys and Brad, Gold Standard hey or should I say DIAMOND STANDARD 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Doh! It was never the “gold standard”. It was just the Murdoch press looking after his Lib mates. Nothing more nothing less.

Their reputation as the 'gold standard leader' is like your reputation as a 'serious news organisation'.

Is Sky News doing a story on a liberal side of government not doing the right thing? Holy shit this is rare!

What do people think masks do?

NSW and GladysB may have been given a gold standard pass by ScottMorrisonMP for contact tracing but have always failed at quarantine. They don’t get it. Prevention is better than mopping up after the event. Scott has not given out a gold rating to any state for quarantine.

Oh my God it's like the only news is bad news for you lot. Fuck me.

Yep, no mandated masks for security staff until recently was a big fail. Overall think NSW have done pretty well. Gladys has tried to balance lockdowns with keeping their economy going and is to be commended for that...

You think THIS is the thing that puts the “gold standard” fallacy in doubt?
