A Russian doctor who twice diagnosed a teenager's appendicitis as gastro in the days before he died, had only been in the country for four weeks on a working visa. 9News

A Russian doctor who twice diagnosed a teenager's appendicitis as gastro in the days before he died, had only been in the country for four weeks on a working visa.

Port Stephens teenager Luca Raso died following misdiagnosed appendicitis after enduring a week of diarrhoea and vomiting in February 2017. Today the 13-year-old's mother Michelle Degenhardt sobbed as she read a letter penned to her son on the final day of an inquest examining his death at Newcastle."I know the only thing you would ask is all the hows and all the whys as to how to stop this from happening again," Ms Degenhardt said."The pain is so big, we try hard to find your light everyday but the huge gaping hole you left is so clear.

She told the inquest she recalled Luca feeling something "pop" in his stomach and coughed up what looked like Coca Cola syrup before he died in the back of an ambulance a few hours later.
