The forced amalgamation of councils in NSW is being blamed for an $89 million financial crisis at the Central Coast Council, now facing suspension by the State Government.A former Wyong mayor says the merger of Wyong Shire Council and City of Gosford caused the problemThe council voted late yesterday to try to show cause as to why it should not go into administrationafter it was revealed more than 2,000 staff could not be paid this week.
Ms Hancock has moved to suspend the Mayor, Lisa Matthews, and all 14 councillors as a result of the budget blowout, but must wait seven days to consider any submissions against the suspension."We have known this was happening but not quite so seriously; not quite so seriously because of the withholding of information."
Mr Graham was one of a number of councillors, including the current Mayor, who strongly opposed the merger.He said the only way forward was to separate the two councils again after an administrator was appointed to manage the current deficit.
