Nine boss Hugh Marks has outlined the network's willingness to walk away from the NRL if the code doesn't significantly reduce its broadcast rights expectations.

Heraldthat Nine is now seeking an even further reduction as part of the company's reassessment of the value of live sport, but is willing to provide the NRL with the long-term security of an extended rights deal until the end of 2025, an additional three years on top of the current arrangement that expires at the end of 2022.

"COVID has changed how you need to consider sports rights and evaluation of sports rights for the future because if we don't take that change now like we are in all other aspects of our business and we wait until the contract expires in two years ... everyone's in for a rude shock in two years," Marks said.

MichaelChammas zoesam93 See ya. You guys are complacent and need a revamped coverage anyway. MichaelChammas zoesam93 Nine can then concentrate on pumping out quality tv like mafs and the block. Nine has nothing other than sport, just call in the administrators now and be done with it. MichaelChammas zoesam93 It's about time the NRL stood up to Channel 9 and set the guidelines re it's business. There are other options apart from Channel 9 who would do just as good a job or even better coverage.

MichaelChammas zoesam93 It’s time for the NRL to adopt the George Costanza method & do the opposite regarding Channel9 . The league should demand a stop to the anti league sentiment their sport programmes engage in on a regular basis or they will never be invited to the negotiation table again. MichaelChammas zoesam93 Interesting 🤔

MichaelChammas zoesam93 Fuck em MichaelChammas zoesam93 A long as it's on free-to-air I don't care what channel it's on. MichaelChammas zoesam93 Hugh is just a slash and burn merchant. He is singularly the worst thing that has happened to 9. Everything he touches turns to wreckage. Ch.9 don't want the NRL but they do want State of Origin. The sooner V'landys can get rid of 9 the better it will be for us.

MichaelChammas zoesam93 Do it! Save us from the headaches with these no brain sports commentators! MichaelChammas zoesam93 If be happy to pay a streaming fee to the NRL to watch all the games. Free to air tv provides a terrible service - hate the ads - would happily pay to have no ad breaks and see every game. Pay for Kayo now bit why doesn’t the nrl do it themselves?

MichaelChammas zoesam93 well said put them on notice the NRL think the sport is that good not any more ...ever since the hooker was taken out the sport sucks big time

Contract talks resume with NRL to register new dealsContract talks can now resume for more than 180 off-contract players ✅

MichaelChammas zoesam93 See ya 👋 MichaelChammas zoesam93 Doesn't matter as another network will pic it up MichaelChammas zoesam93 Who cares MichaelChammas zoesam93 It’ll be the greatest day for Rugby League in Australia. 👋🏼👋🏼👋🏼 see ya MichaelChammas zoesam93 Ch 9 relied on the NRL for ratings & advertising revenue for decades. They’re not getting what they want from the NRL, so what do they do? Throw a hissy fit, walk away & you’ll have SFA that FTA viewers will watch. Re-runs of the block just doesn’t cut it.

MichaelChammas zoesam93 Please do MichaelChammas zoesam93 seeing the shit you have on i don't think the nrl would be all that upset MichaelChammas zoesam93 It’s not channel nines god given right to have the nrl, ALL the channels have had nrl broadcast rights at some stage, just move on. MichaelChammas zoesam93 Shut the door on the way out Hughy boy

MichaelChammas zoesam93 Yes! Show movies instead.

Gal: Why I fear for next NRL offender'The next player who stuffs up... I think it's a season ban at minimum.' 9News NRL Idiots Tip: don't offend! Just goes to show what losers they are. But it is so disappointing that their behavior and lack of punishment is seen by so many young kids, who will grow up thinking and behaving like them as being the acceptable way to do so

MichaelChammas zoesam93 All the sporting codes will need to ponder this. As advertisers and sponsors pull back spending there will be less available to spend on broadcasting rights. Many players will have to learn how to live on a mere $200k per year ! MichaelChammas zoesam93 Nrl just leave channel 9. No sport no viewers .

MichaelChammas zoesam93 Probably fair enough. How many people see the appeal of watching NRL in empty stadiums? MichaelChammas zoesam93 So just leave for another free-to-air channel. Nothing special about 9. People are much more interested in the footy than they are in whichever channel parcels it out with mindless advertising.

MichaelChammas zoesam93 Pete Costello is Ch 9 Chairman so expect him to try and stuff up the NRL beyond belief if he gets half a chance. He sold our gold and crashed our economy headlong towards the GFC before Australians woke up. MichaelChammas zoesam93 I reckon most of the viewing public, fans or not wouldn't mind either. Hope all other networks & radio stations will feel the same Sick2Death GoodRiddanceNRL smh auspol NRLonNine 7Sport 10SportAU ContinuousCall abcgrandstand bludgingontheblindside

MichaelChammas zoesam93 Good MichaelChammas zoesam93 Hahahahaha MichaelChammas zoesam93 Channel 9’s coverage is terrible. Happy never to watch 9 ever again. MichaelChammas zoesam93 Hang on, wasn't 9 lobbying the government to bring back football?

Sources close to negotiations have since told the Herald that Nine is now seeking an even further reduction as part of the company's reassessment of the value of live sport, but is willing to provide the NRL with the long-term security of an extended rights deal until the end of 2025, an additional three years on top of the current arrangement that expires at the end of 2022.Share via Email NRL players are back on deck and so are the game's endless contract talks, with more than 180 off-contract players able to plan for their futures again.Once the players have that in their head, once they have something to strive for, their mentality will totally switch around.Larger text size Very large text size The smile on the face of young South Sydney forward Cameron Murray summed up the mood of the entire NRL playing group on a chilly Monday morning.

"COVID has changed how you need to consider sports rights and evaluation of sports rights for the future because if we don't take that change now like we are in all other aspects of our business and we wait until the contract expires in two years .. Stars including David Fifita, Jake Friend and Cameron Smith are among those who had contract negotiations put on hold.. The game can't afford them. everyone's in for a rude shock in two years," Marks said. Any reduction in the salary cap would require an agreement between the NRL and RLPA. "Now's the time when we need to make the changes necessary to make these sports rights more sustainable. Advertisement Damien Cook at Redfern Oval.

The future of our businesses is in aggregated video consumption. "Until otherwise notified any Top 30 contract not yet registered by the NRL needs to include the following clause: Where the NRL, Clubs and RLPA agree that players' contracted Playing Fees will be reduced for the 2020, 2021 and / or 2022 seasons, the player agrees that his contracted Playing Fee will be reduced by the same annual percentage basis down to a limit of the agreed Top 30 (or equivalent) minimum wage for that season," an NRL memo read on Monday. Little things like that which used to be part of their routine. We're a business that actually is now less reliant on live sport and the reason for a lot of sport and it's being was its volume contribution to free-to-air advertising. "But as you move and you create profitability and revenue and other mediums which are not reliant on sport, all of a sudden as a business we're able to be a lot more analytical and perhaps a lot more disciplined around those decisions. Whether that date remains as the transfer deadline is still to be determined in further talks with the RLPA, as is the usual stipulation for clubs to have a top 30 squad finalised by the end of June. And that's where I think we've really been quite hard on that NRL discussion.." Channel Nine headquarters in Willoughby. Players on development contracts will be available to play as soon as the competition resumes on May 28, easing the rule that required an NRL exemption for them to be named before June 30. Tigers boss Justin Pascoe told the Herald for most of the players it was like "their first day at school".

Credit: Marks also confirmed Nine was interested in taking over the NRL's digital arm , which it believes runs in competition with the network. There is a frustration from the two broadcasters, who were this year meant to inject about $320m into the game, that their investment is being used to prop up a potential bidder for future NRL rights. A short-term Raiders deal for Jordan Rapana can also now be lodged after the Kiwi international returned to training on Monday with the NRL's permission. Going to the beach. "The rationale was you're spending a lot of money in the NRL on your own digital team, but we've got a digital team and Fox Sports has a digital team," Marks said. "Surely it would be better if we just relied on what the broadcasters were already doing rather than going into competition and creating a whole other cost base on top of what already exists. The Rabbitohs have already enacted options for Latrell Mitchell and Jaydn Su'A to remain at Redfern in 2021. We know what the NRL needs, which is a direct communication with their fan base. Nathan Cleary and the gathering at his house on Anzac Day." Out at Penrith players were seen removing their shoes at the entrance of the Panthers Academy and having their temperatures taken.

Loading "That can be facilitated through Nine and through Fox Sports and by us sort of supporting the nrl.com website. We can do that a lot more cost effectively than they can. Go straight home. For us, it's about saying, 'Here's one opportunity for you to reduce your cost base and make the sport more sustainable for the long term'." . The Warriors woke up in Tamworth after they touched down Sunday and will spend the next two weeks in the country town before relocating to the Central Coast.
