'Not surprised': Kyrgios hits back at Rafter over call for ban | themattbungard

Nick Kyrgios has hit back at calls from Pat Rafter that he should be suspended from the ATP Tour, saying he wasn't surprised because he believes the retired great "loves hanging fellow Aussies out to dry"."Enjoy staying relevant champ": Nick Kyrgios has hit back at Pat Rafter."Probably because everywhere I play the stadiums are sold out, and the event makes money with me around?" Kyrgios replied on Twitter.

Rafter himself conceded that Kyrgios was a top drawcard for tournaments, but argued that crowds weren't everything."At what stage do you say the crowd is more important? Or are you trying to uphold a certain standard or protocol for players to adhere to," the two-time US Open champion said. Kyrgios was fined for $167,000 for conduct at the Cincinnati Masters in August, where he appeared to call umpire Fergus Murphy a "f---ing tool" and smashed two racquets during a bathroom break. The 24-year-old enjoyed a successful year on the tour, winning two singles titles in Washington and Acapulco.

The win in Acapulco was particularly impressive, knocking off three of the world's top-10 players in the process, including Rafael Nadal., who said that a suspension was warranted following a string of incidents across the ATP season. The Laver Cup is in its third year, pitting tennis stars from Europe against the rest of the world in a series of singles and doubles matches.Team Europe, coached by Bjorn Borg, has beaten John McEnroe's Team World comfortably in both 2017 and 2018.

He and Jack Sock were victorious in their two doubles matches, a fact Kyrgios point out on Instagram last week with a playful jab at their upcoming opponents.

TheMattBungard I enjoyed going to tennis matches. Now, the likes of Kyrgios who is more of a clown than a tennis player has totally spoiled it for me. I refuse to pay for tickets to see the antics and hear the foul mouthed drivel of Kyrgios. Men's tennis started as a gentlemen's game. Now

TheMattBungard Power is nothing without control. What a waste of great talent

TheMattBungard There’s usually more than one match per day . I’m sure some of the crowd come to see other players in action rather than just him .

TheMattBungard Really? Does this bloke want sold out stadiums for a while or grand slams (Rafter 4 GS finals , winner if 2) that guarantees a long career- bizarre and disrespectful

TheMattBungard Tennis Aust ought to let Rafter retire.
