Tennis Australia chief executive Craig Tiley said on Sunday he could envisage Novak Djokovic being able to return for the 2023 Australian Open despite a three-year ban from entering the country hanging over his head.

“Yes,” Mr Tiley said. ″⁣Obviously lot of things have to play out this year, but that will be his intention.“[But] it’s really important to note that … there’s no one person, there’s no organisation that is bigger than the event itself.” Tournament boss Mr Tiley also denied the Serbian was suing Tennis Australia over the drawn-out legal saga in which Djokovic travelled to Australia citing a medical exemption but was stopped at the border, before his visa was cancelled, a decision the tennis player challenged in court. On Sunday Mr Andrews said he hadn’t heard Mr Tiley’s remarks, but he retained the view that it wasn’t right for Djokovic to return without being vaccinated.
